What is an alcohol test
An alcohol test is designed to detect a by-product of alcohol called ethanol; ethanol is the main metabolite of alcohol produced by the body. Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) is determined by how quickly alcohol is absorbed, distributed, metabolized, and excreted.
Alcohol Drug Test Kits are available in various options.
- Standard Urine Alcohol.
A standard urine test detects alcohol use from five (5) to eight (8) hours in the past. Alcohol is determined to be positive if the level detected is over 300 ng/mL - Urine EtG
The EtG test makes it possible to detect alcohol abuse up to eighty (80) hours by detecting a different metabolite Ethyl Glucuronide or EtG. The benefit of detecting the metabolite Ethyl Glucuronide over Ethanol is there is less chance of a false positive. Sometimes, the stomach will cause a secondary fermentation to take place which will produce Ethanol even if the individual has not consumed alcohol. Alcohol is determined to be positive if the level detected is greater than 300 ng/mL. - Oral or Saliva Alcohol
Oral or Saliva Alcohol tests analyze a person’s saliva for ethanol and are often considered more reliable for a quick check of alcohol use. Alcohol is determined to be positive if the level detected is greater than 0.04% B.A.C. - Breath Alcohol
- Breath alcohol device detects alcohol from the breath by blowing through a tube and emptying the lungs of air into the chamber where the content is analyzed. The result of this type of test is measured as a percentage of blood alcohol content detectable from five (5) to eight (8) hours.
The results for these tests are almost instant only taking a few minutes with accuracies up to 99%.
