About Fentanyl:
Fentanyl is a potent, synthetic opioid classed as a Schedule II controlled substance. It has a rapid effect but a short duration of action. It is 50 to 100 times more powerful and toxic than Morphine and 50 times stronger than Heroin. As a result, the risk of addiction and dependence is high, particularly when combined with alcohol or Heroin. It is so dangerous it can cause death. Historically it has been used in pre-procedure as a pain reliever. Fentanyl is a prescription drug, but non-pharmaceutical versions are available on the black market. It comes in a powder form and can be injected, smoked, or snorted.

Instructions for using the Test Strip to Detect Fentanyl:
- Remove the strip from its foil pouch and label it on the reverse side with the patient’s name or identity.
- Mix the suspect substance with a bit of water in a spoon. If the sample is a solid pill, crush it into a powder.
- Submerge the reactive end of the strip (marked with dotted lines) into the sample for fifteen seconds. DO NOT let the sample touch the MAX line on the strip to avoid inconclusive results.
- Or add a small amount of the suspect substance to a small ziplock-type bag, add a small amount of water, and mix.
- Submerge the reactive end of the strip into the bag, as shown in the image, to the dotted lines into the sample. Hold for fifteen seconds.
- Place the test strip on a flat, clean surface and read the results after five minutes. DO NOT read results after ten minutes.
- When complete, dispose of the test in the trash.
