Drug of Abuse: MarijuanaDrug of Abuse Marijuana

Marijuana is still a Schedule I controlled substance available on the illicit market, although it is prescribed in some states and now legal in others. Federally though, it is still an illegal substance.  It is the most commonly abused drug in the United States.

It is a dry, shredded green and brown mix of flowers, stems, seeds, and leaves derived from the hemp plant Cannabis sativa.

The main active chemical in Marijuana is THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol). The results of smoking Marijuana lead to the high that users experience, but in some cases can cause depression and anxiety.

The drug testing kits below yield a positive result when the metabolite delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol in urine exceed 50 ng/mL. This is the suggested screening cut-off for positive specimens set by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA, USA).

Drug Detectable
Marijuana 1-30 days
K2 – Spice 1-3 days

Synthetic marijuana is a psychoactive herbal and chemical product that when consumed or smoked, mimics the effects of cannabis. The brand names K2 and Spice are the most common.

These names have become general trademarks used to refer to any synthetic marijuana product.

Synthetic marijuana may also be seen as “herbal incense”; however, you may also see it as a “herbal smoking blend.” In either case, the users usually smoke it.

Although synthetic marijuana does not produce positive results in drug tests for cannabis, it is possible to detect their metabolites with a urine K2 – Spice drug test.
